In a world where the spirit of Esau is heralded, I’ve embraced a motherhood that intentionally seeks to protect and kindle my children’s longing for Home - their spiritual Home in Jesus.⠀
⠀
BUT HOW?⠀
(You’ll find I like to ask this question.☺️)⠀
⠀
1. Don’t neglect the myths.⠀
⠀
Myths showcase the longing of mankind for heaven. They are evidence that we are created beings, longing to worship Someone Greater.⠀
⠀
When gone astray or ignorant of the One True God, we devise monsters.⠀
⠀
We also conjure heroes.⠀
History has revealed this time and time again.⠀
⠀
Myths and tales point to humanity’s ancient ache for a selfless, sacrificial, mighty Hero.⠀
⠀
Like sandpaper, they slowly sharpen or smooth our conscience on what is right and wrong, evil and good, perverted and pure.⠀
⠀
Simultaneously, we arouse a longing for a Hero who can “save me from this body of death.”⠀
⠀
2. Don’t neglect the tales.⠀
⠀
To a friend, who just lost his wife to our old enemy, Death, with young children to raise (and help grieve), I may have given a strange answer: “Read them tales.”⠀
⠀
👉🏼Pilgrim’s Progress, Chronicles of Narnia, the Green Ember series, Princess and the Goblin…
⠀
They not only make us long for the “something more,” but also provide comfort and confirmation for what they know deep down:⠀
⠀
I was made for more than this lifetime.⠀
⠀
I was made for more than pain, grief, and this heavy burden of guilt and shame.⠀
⠀
I was made to be an overcomer.⠀
⠀
We, as Gospel-reliant moms want to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in His work of bringing a harvest in our children’s souls, right?⠀
⠀
Then, we do the work of preparing the soil, making it soft and nourishing to receive the Seed of the Gospel.⠀
⠀
HOW?⠀
Read them tales.⠀
⠀
Then stand back and witness the Holy Spirit do what C.S.Lewis described as having the “imagination baptized.”⠀
